About The Artwork

I would never have believed it if I hadn't been there personally. I mean on the mission with Captain Zanzibar, of course. He was the only explorer to be able to convince the Dowager Empress to spend money on ships and men to sail into the unknown to try to find the Lost City of Gold. Clearly his powers of persuasion were superior to the other captains who had tried, or perhaps it was his blatant flirting with her. Either way, we left the palace with plenty of money to fund the trip, and Zanzibar had a mischievous smile that I hadn't seen him flash in years. We dropped anchor a month later in a cove on what we now know to be El Dorado Island. Captain Zanzibar had our ships sail completely around the entire island, twice, and we saw no signs of civilization. Thirty of us rowed to the beach in five boats of six to explore this strange land. The men talked amongst themselves and were feeling a combination of excitement, anticipation, and fear. We split up and began to search the island for signs of life, but more importantly, for gold. It was my group that first saw the volcano. Not a huge one on a mountaintop like in the stories. This volcano was no bigger than the Great Pyramid of Giza so we climbed up to look down into the crater. What we saw next confirmed our wildest ambitions. GOLD! Lots of it! I would leave it up to Captain Zanzibar to figure out HOW to extract all that hot molten gold from all that hot molten lava. It was bubbling and spitting in a huge pool maybe 75 feet below the top of the rim. All I knew was that it was all real. The gold was real... it was just so hot it was liquid gold.

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
