About The Artwork
Her name is “NZOU”, meaning “elephant” in the Shona translation. The Matriarch is usually the leader of the elephant herd, a female— due to her lethal combination of wisdom, care & intuition. Women in today’s world are clearly capable of so much more than we’ve been marginalized to believe. Most times, issues concerning the female gender are repressed on a macro-scale in our world. Painting this I realized that we are, quite literally, ‘The Elephant In The Room’. Sacred Taboo. Controversial. Powerful. Respected by few. Feared by all. Sleeping Giants slowly shaking from their slumber.
