About The Artwork

This painting is after part of Botticelli's famous "Primavera", I focused on one of the characters in this painting, Flora. I used watercolor onthe very archival Ampersand Aquabord panel; I fixed the watercolor and finished it with several light layers of acrylic varnish. The painting was ready to be framed and displayed just like an oil or acrylic painting . My professional framer added a wood cradle then framed "Flora" in a black wood floating frame for finished dimensions of 21.75" x 17.75". I work with all mediums, but especially love the combination of watercolor and the Ampersand Aquabord surface. The resulting painting retains the transparency and glow of watercolor but with the vivid colors of acrylic or oils. I felt humbled to study Botticelli's masterpiece in order to give my own version of a small part of it. This is a timeless painting that will bring the freshness of spring and a touch of Renaissance Art to your home. It will come framed, wired and ready to enjoy right out of the box.

When I paint, I am happy and feel whole. I paint the beauty of light and the joy I find in life! My work wants to be a sharing of a moment of serenity and balance. It is an expression and reconciliation of my inner dichotomy: I love creativity while needing structure; I love fluidity and softness of colors while craving realist details and lines. Consequently, for example, my watercolour demonstrate realism with colors much enhanced by my imagination. My paintings of sculptures and carvings depict the dancing light on crumbling brickwork, or pastel colors on the stone carvings. In my acrylic or watercolour “Leaves Series”, mysterious but serene light filters through the stems and leaves, water shimmers here and there as the leaves float on the pond. My oil paintings dance with vibrant colors on top of well-structured florals. My first art love was watercolour and my watercolour paintings have won many awards and I have completed major corporate commissions in watercolour. However, I am an explorer at heart and love to try new surfaces, new styles and techniques. I go from watercolour to acrylic paints to mixed media to realistic oils. In the last few years I have become obsessed with detailed oil florals especially of peonies and sunflowers.
