Fragments Of Hope (Red) Painting

President Barack Obama ran on the platform of HOPE. He was able to deliver on his promises and accomplished many great things. Still, for many he delivered only fractions of what they were hoping he would. When you combine one of the greatest Presidents of all time with the backlash to one of the most corrupt and racist times we have had, you still hope. Hope for the change to come. Hope for the endurance to deliver, even on the tiniest fragments of hope. Hopefully this will eventually drive us to act - act for a better and more just society. I paint portraits of iconic people, people who have an impact on me or our society. I originally painted this portrait in 2018 but I added the gold leaf and repainted it it in 2020. I accidentally sliced the canvas a bit while removing excess paint, so the patch in the back is from that. I used 23K gold leaf on this painting - it emits a very rich mellow buttery glow. The painting is signed on the back and has my “e” symbol on the front. The painting continues around the sides, so it is ready to hang unframed.
