About The Artwork

I was once abducted by four lowlifes and thrown into a waiting van, beaten and robbed at knife point, and then tossed out the back of the moving vehicle as it sped away from the nightclub into the darkness. It all happened so fast, yet everything seemed to be in slow motion. Almost like I was in a movie scene and the cameras in my mind were catching all the action. My "fight or flight" instincts really kicked into high gear as soon as I realized the van was starting to move. In fact; I wanted desperately to fight AND to flight so I kicked and punched back at them trying to break free right up until the blade of a big nasty hunting knife was put against my throat. I was violently ordered to stop fighting if I wanted to live, so I immediately froze. The van was speeding away on the open road by now heading toward the swamps. I think I took a few more punches in the face after the knife appeared but soon my wallet was out of my pocket, all my money was gone, and I was suddenly bouncing on the pavement with my now-empty wallet landing next to me. I skidded to a stop a few hundred yards from the parking lot where they snatched me. I had just become a crime statistic! Or had I? This attack took place on a Friday night of Labor Day weekend at about 4 AM outside The Dunes Til Dawn on Longport Boulevard. The police were called but no investigation was ever initiated. No incident report was even written up. The police instead advised me not to stay out so late, to be thankful my throat wasn't actually cut, and finally they told me to go back to wherever I came from before I got into more trouble in their town. Protect and Serve, eh? Thanks. Nice effort. The irony is that less than 24 hours later I was sitting in their police station after being detained on a completely unrelated, minor summary offense. In the same town. By the same police department if not the exact same cops that gave me the bum's rush the night before. Luckily a few friends heard I was in police custody and showed up to pay my fine so the situation never got the chance to escalate. We hastily left the station before anybody had a chance to throw me in a cell. After a few more days on the beach and a few more nights of partying I eventually took the officer's advice and went back to college before I got into any more trouble. At least in his town... This piece of art represents my story about getting mugged, and about the incongruity of the police conduct I experienced that special holiday weekend in South Jersey. That said; I do hope you like the complexity and the depth of this work. The more you look at the lines, colors, shapes, and space the more will be revealed to you from below the surface. Enjoy!

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
