About The Artwork

Collection of The Saint Louis Art Museum, January Hour was exhibited at Dillon Gallery in SoHo in 1998, in one of Fujimura's groundbreaking exhibits. His art was noted by Robert Kushner, a critic writing for Art for America, and Fujimura's work was also purchased by The Saint Louis Art Museum. January Hour is a meditation on the medieval Book of Hours. Fujimura begins to exhibit fusing of his Christian faith with Japanese history of Nihonga, particularly the refractive layering technique learned from his Masters, Kazuho Hieda and Matazo Kayama, at Tokyo University of Fine Arts, a journey of 16th century navigation between the East and the West. Though unsigned, these Saatchi prints are approved by the artist.
