Light Pink Pillow 1 Painting

As in a number of recent pillow paintings I have used the horizontal format and a tighter compositional type crop. This places the fabric very much at the boundary of the pictorial and implied visual field. In the original there is about three centimeters between the edge of the linen support and the subject (the fabric). The image is pretty much actual size, i.e. the painted subject and real subject are virtually the same. This makes the image almost a 'Trompe l' oeil' or illusion of reality. In this painting the fabric has been explored in greater depth using a natural light source. Vermeer, Caravaggio and Manet are exponents I frequently think about when working. Painted on high quality linen using handmade and artist quality oil paints. It has been hand prepared (primed) by myself. This allows for greater control of the technical and aesthetic conditions governing its production.
