The artist has made this painting using acrylic, oil, pencil and Biro. The image is part of a series that works and reworks a set theme - a specific landscape and directions, based on compass points. Colour and paint are applied thickly, and drawn into, creating textures and textual phrases, representing thoughts that suggest the memory of being in this place. Segments of words form part of the surface, reading as gestural marks, as well as hints, prompts, disconnected thoughts linked to experience. Composition is used to bring the viewer into the painting, seen through the agitated surface, where painterly shapes suggest parts of the scene. The painting exists as a record of what it felt to be in this particular landscape as the brightening moonlight transformed the scene. It is also a record of that sensation felt as the evening fades into twilight, and the colours of night melt and recompose objects and distances; this changing light encourages that silent awe and introspection, the acknowledgement of the inherent mystery of nature, and our interrelationship with it, in its presence. The painting is sold unframed. The edges have been painted in, so can be accommodated within a variety of frames i.e. simple tray frames, traditional, etc.
