About The Artwork
I was inspired to create wings with the thick acrylic paste I use - with each sweep of the palette knife I could make a clear flight feather. I was guided by photographs and paintings of this popular pose for an owl... especially a Barn Owl. I am privileged to witness Barn Owls when I am out in the countryside near my home and studio, either when walking of an evening or driving, or just looking out of a window. I have been lucky enough to drive along a lane with one flying parallel to me for some time… I held my breath not wanting it to end! Such grace, such effortless elegance and so silent. It is something only my eyes can claim, for that fleeting moment I glide with that ghost like creature… in silence. All artwork is signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

I create art to give pleasure, to myself whilst creating it and to others to uplift, fascinate and resonate with each person. I love texture and I am fascinated by colour and light. I enjoy using texture mediums to create interesting surfaces which I then colour. Many of my paintings have textured contours which cast shadows that change as the light changes and give a different life to each piece throughout a day. I’m captivated by the different ways paint behaves depending on how it’s used, the way the strokes of a brush or palette knife leave their mark, the way the paint mixes and changes with every pass. I love to watch my paintings unfold before me, as although I may start with an idea, I let the paint itself dictate how the piece evolves. Abstractionism is perfect for allowing the colour and form of my work to express the nuances of the paint and mediums themselves, unconstrained by realistic form.
