About The Artwork
A somewhat abstract approach to my childhood memories. I remember my grandmother's embroidery, which she did exactly as her grandmother taught her. I remember how fascinated I lived with Mickey Mouse, picking the flowers in the old-growth forest, and enjoying the gracefulness of the ducks in the fields. At the same time, looking at the replicas of the paintings in her grandparents' house, I would get very thoughtful about why some painters portray fear and war, as in Edward Munch's painting "The Scream". This work was made with author's technique ( mix of industrial glues, traditional embroidery, acrylic on cotton). The final painting was framed with a raw oak frame and is protected with glass.

Vera Fonseka is an artist based in Portugal whose paintings have been widely exhibited nationally. She describes her works as conveying the paradoxical existence between the scrupulous intricacy of the details and the brutality of iconography. Fonseka's artistic process is marked by her use of mixed techniques with adhesives, fabrics, acrylics, and oils on canvas. She was born in 1982 in Tallinn (ex URSS, actually Estonia) in an actors-family. In 2003 Vera moved to Portugal where she's been living since then. Inspired by Kandinsky, Frank Stella, Beatriz Milhazes and Alexandra Mir, Vera Fonseka tries to make conceptual contribution in Contemporary Art.
