About The Artwork
Redcar in Yorkshire the town I grew up in.Shallow beaches with long lazy breakers at high tide. The ships that entered the TEES dumped rubbish overboard from exotic lands which washed up on the beach and were half buried by the shifting sands. Redcar Pier was just about still standing and I represented its Ballroom by an empty Toblerone packet, symbol of the world beyond Redcar. The Red colour is associated with a red light which shone at night on the sea front presumably as some sort of signal to shipping.
