About The Artwork

“Sprung Light”,Jade’s Path” and “Rose Fingered Dawn” comprise the series of Fynbos paintings which were inspired by a prolonged period spent on my brother's farm in the indigenous landscape of the Garden Route of South Africa. Based on daily walks and drawings on the farm, the paintings were started quickly once back in my studio in Istanbul. The title "Rose Fingered Dawn" refers back to Homer and the mythical sunrises of the Turkish coast. It also perfectly conjures the moment of a Southern African sunrise filtered through the delicate yet tough fronds of the Fynbos landscape. This is perhaps most evident in my use of colour, shades of shifting dust filtered light reminiscent of the Eastern Cape colliding with the flux of light and colour of the Bosphorus. These two strands flow through the work as it veers through the difficcult and the beautiful, nature and culture.

Another noteworthy exhibition, 'Trans-Idyllic,' curated by Lewis Johnson in Istanbul, drew connections between Diana's work and post-modern painters such as Sigmar Polke. Furthermore, 'Akıs Flow,' curated by Jochen Proehl at BAUART, presented the flow of Diana's work through a captivating digital presentation of her numerous sketchbooks alongside her paintings. These accomplishments and exhibitions have solidified Diana Page's reputation as an artist who continually explores new artistic territories, diverse creative mediums, and inspires others through her evocative works.
