Sacred Painting

Sacred was inspired by oriental paintings of the sacred lotus plant. According to Mohammed a lotus tree stands in the seventh heaven, on the right hand of the throne of God , and the Egyptians pictured the creator springing from the heart of a lotus flower. Iamblichus says the leaves and fruit of the lotus tree, being round, represent "the motion of intellect", while its towering up through mud symbolises the eminency of divine intellect over matter. The painting has been rendered in gesso and oil on canvas finished with matt varnish.The canvas is mounted a wooden cradle, picture corded and ready to hang (No framing required). The artwork is titled , signed and dated on the reverse of the picture.
