Safe Exit - 3 Painting

This body of work was created when I was experiencing a sudden illness and was drowning in a bad mood of anxiety, fear and helplessness. The images convey the anxiety, fear, helplessness and doubtful dependency that I felt in the midst of an inexplicable illness. The illness is tormenting me, as if my body is being consumed, as if I am a spectator to my own life, looking at it with two eyes, but unable to do anything about it. I felt deeply disturbed in my consciousness and out of control in my body, as if a lesion in one part of my body had caused me to wander away, to be cut off and abandoned in such a helpless environment, with a deep anxiety and a heavy sense of fear, as if death was imminent. This also led me to ask questions about my physical existence and to long for the spiritual solace of religion, which I felt so strongly. So I longed to find a safe exit to escape quickly to an ideal temple full of beauty and light. But in the end, it turns out that this exit does not exist, that it is virtual, and that perhaps myself or art itself is the real trustworthy safe exit.
