About The Artwork
Scarlata is the medieval Latin word for the brilliant orange tinted red that symbolizes many things, but its' abstract visual properties were my focus in this painting. It is woven into a complex pattern with a grey of very close value. This juxtaposition creates the vibrant space that I sought. Bauhaus influence is apparent, particularly the work and teachings of Josef Albers, Paul Klee and Maholy-Nagy. I chose Acrylic paint because of its' archival and fast drying properties.

I studied painting, drawing and color with Josef Albers at Yale University and have recently returned to full time painting and drawing after a career in Graphic Design. My work is in many private collections and has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art Lending Service, the Neuberger Museum, the Flinn Gallery and Anelle Gandelman Fine Art. In 2008 I was an artist in residence at the Albers Foundation in Bethany, Connecticut.
