About The Artwork

This work belongs to my series "Selfportrait". In my childhood I always feared to touch my navel. It was almost an existential fear, I was afraid it would unwind. All this series it about deconstruction, fragmentation of my body. This series wouldn't be complete without a navel portrait because a person becomes an individual when you cut the umbilical cord. It's a beginning of the person and it's an end of mother-child connection. Your navel is a constant reminder that once you were just a fetus that was totally, one hundred percent dependent on other human. I used black to represent this fear of death that every child inside a mother's womb has. And of course, I used pink to represent my feminine nature.
