About The Artwork

We were painting in situ for the Heritage Trust Annual Painting Competition in early May 2019. The Coaling Island area was earmarked for more construction so the Heritage Trust had asked artists to paint this area before the new works began. It was a warm, sunny morning out on the pier at Coaling Island and I chose to paint the Small Boats Marina for my second painting that day. I liked the modern architecture in the distance and blue colours. I chose this medium as it was the quickest for me (due to the limited hours we had to complete the work). I liked the bright colour from the acrylic paint and the freedom the charcoal and chalk gave me to quickly produce the image I wanted. I sealed the work with a matt varnish. Matthew 4:19 “Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.” “Small Boats Marina” is painted with acrylics, charcoal and chalk. Prints are also available.

I am a passionate Gibraltarian artist who has been painting all my life. I find Gibraltar’s location provides great opportunities for fresh ideas. I have always enjoyed painting outdoors and participated in many competitions and exhibitions in Gibraltar, Spain and Italy. My first Highly Commended award was achieved in 1999 with the Heritage Trust and won 1st Prize in 2018, along with awards from the Fine Arts Association, The Spring Exhibition and the International Exhibition in Gibraltar. I also won the People’s Choice award at an exhibition in the Garrison Library for my painting “The Return”. My first commission was from Raffles Restaurant on Queensway Quay, in 1995, which was subsequently used for their marketing and have undertaken various large mural commissions in more recent years and assisted my son, Paul, in his artistic projects (including the street-art mural in the tunnel at Alameda Gardens and the MTV Musical Festival). In 2000 I was a founding member of the Fine Arts Association which operates from the Fine Arts Gallery in Casemates. An avid lover of all things God created and nature, I am a Christian Artist and exhibited my collection “For the Glory of God” at the John Mackintosh Hall, Gibraltar in July 2020 and at the Fine Arts Gallery. Our loving Father wants us to feel whole and complete and it is through talents that we can find our unique calling in life. Your talent is God’s gift to you and what you do with it is your gift back to God.
