About The Artwork

Remember that old commercial where two guys crash into each other and one is eating a chocolate bar and the other has an open jar of peanut butter? After the accident pieces of chocolate are in the PB and vice versa and the VO says "Two great tastes that go great together"? Well, why not two great artists (both Dutch) that go great together? Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and Van Gogh's "Starry Night" seem made for each other don't you think? When I'm searching for inspiration I take Picasso's advice and find it by just working. On anything. This time I tried a copy of the Vermeer and when it was finished it seemed sort of plain to me. After letting it sit for a bit and looking out of the corner of my eye at it trying to thing of what could make it a different, 21st Century type of copy I noticed of of my Van Gogh books on the bookshelf. One of the best weeks of my life was an impromptu stay in Arles in the south of France with my wife. Having been a fanboy of Vincent forever it was great walking the streets he walked and hiking out into the countryside to see the actual locations of the paintings he made there, including "The Starry Night". So here are 2 of the 3 most famous Dutch painters (Rembrandt being the 3rd) mashed up.

As a figurative oil painter navigating the ever-evolving landscape of the modern art world, my work is a testament to the enduring power of the human form and its capacity to convey the profound complexities of our shared experiences. In an era where abstraction and digital mediums often dominate, I find solace and strength in the timeless practice of capturing the human figure through oil on canvas. My paintings are rooted in the rich traditions of classical art, yet they are imbued with contemporary sensibilities that speak to today's audience. Through a meticulous blend of realism and expressive brushwork, I strive to breathe life into my subjects, exploring themes of identity, emotion, and the human condition. Each piece is a narrative, a moment frozen in time, inviting viewers to connect with the raw, unfiltered essence of humanity. As I strive to make my mark in the modern art world, I remain committed to the belief that figurative painting holds a unique power to communicate universal truths. It is through this lens that I explore the ever-changing dynamics of our society, seeking to capture the essence of what it means to be human in a world that is constantly in flux. My journey as a figurative oil painter is one of passion, perseverance, and an unwavering dedication to my craft. Through my art, I aim to bridge the gap between tradition and innovation, offering a fresh perspective on the timeless beauty of the human form. In doing so, I hope to inspire others to see the world—and themselves—through a lens of empathy, connection, and profound appreciation for the art of figurative painting."
