This painting was done from a live model. Initially I did sketches, and some generalized washes of color. Then after giving much thought as to the feeling I wanted to convey, I began applying color. As a figurative painter I am always adding colors. Having a true flesh color does not excite me. Therefore, I use reds, pthalos, teals and yellows. It is at that time that my figure begins to evolve. Once that portion is blocked in I begin to consider the background and its importance. In this case, I wanted some definitive lines to take your eye around the canvas. But I also wanted to blur out anything that would interfere with the figure.
