About The Artwork

It is a view through a modern, large window onto the inner courtyard. The dominant feature of the painting is the green lawn in the centre. The reflections of other buildings are reflected on the window glass. Panting is big, but very intimite. Light enters the darkened space through the glass panels, creating rhythmic shadows from the columns and window frames. Everything is kept in navy blue, blue and noble greens. The painting is extremely elegant and spacious. It encourages reflection and moment of silence, maybe even a moment of meditation. It is a paiting about space, but at the same timeit is cozy and having an intimate atmosphere. Lines 'are an inevitable element of Architecture. The necessity for order. The regulating line is a guarantee against wilfulness. It brings satisfaction to the understanding' - Le Corbusier, ‘Toward an Architecture’ These are very important sentences for me - the rhythm of the lines gives the painting power. I create spaces that are spaces for our thoughts, for our interior, for spirituality and metaphysics. This horizontal direction, which is often repeated in my works, is a direction that is close to humans. It is not without reason that I recall the leading architect of modernism. He was the first to point out that the horizontal direction is a very human direction, contrasting it with the vertical direction (directed towards God). The human eye naturally orientates the world in the horizontal frame. It was with this in mind that Le Corbusier incorporated horizontal windows into his buildings. All my paintings are made in laborious and time-consuming technique of application semitransparent layers of oil paint. It is long process which takes usually over one year: each subsequent layer of paint is applied on the already dried layer. It is a very rarely used technique that requires patience and consistency, but thanks to this technique the painting has its unique depth and luminosity.

Agnieszka Wielewska is a painter, but also a set designer and illustrator from Poland. Awarded with many scholarships and prizes and her paintings are exhibited in Poland and abroad. What interest her the most is seeking light: both natural and artificial. Understood in an affirmative way, sanctifying the moment of everyday life. The light is close to poetry that abstract objects and space from their obviousness. Her art focus on tender look for reality. It is a positive narrative with intimate silence.
