About The Artwork
What interests me in the Phoenix myth from a painting perspective is the stage right after its spectacular death where the transformation begins. Charred remains breathing life into a new bird. This idea created a fertile landscape for me to explore. I wanted to paint something fragile, protected under the charred wings and ash, and yet I drifted further and further away from the shape of a bird in a figurative sense.
