Painting, Oil on Canvas
Size: 35.4 W x 35.4 H x 0.8 D in
Ships in a Crate
The work is painted on linen canvas with tempera and oil. The canvas is grounded with rabbit-skin glue. Genuine pigments like glaukonite and leadwhite have been used. I have previously painted human faces, human bodies, and body parts. Over the last few years, the human figure has been replaced by drapery composition and a decorative, abstract form. The fabric fold is a simple model, yet endlessly fascinating in its ambiguity. It has dents, holes and surface, just like a human being. It shelters and it breathes, it's changing and changeable. I'm presenting an abstraction, at once an emotion and a physical experience. The union between eye and hand is an essential one. I have a model before me, and yet the end result might be very abstract.

Finland
I am an Finnish artist living and working in Helsinki. I have worked as an artist for 16 years now. My great interest is in painting and drawing. Whilst painting, I feel like being present both in my body and in the work. Touching the painting, I touch my own being. Whatever it is that I'm painting, that something is at once fascinating and intimidating. It hurts and it caresses, it changes its shape and it expresses itself in different things and different people. At times, it is lucidly manifest in a painting.
