About The Artwork

After receiving my Degree in fine Art, I collaborated w/ my Mother Kay Sullivan in creating flowing visually weightless, sophisticated imagery using the very refined Japanese handmade Washi paper painted w/ acrylics. We were very successful thru-out all the biggest and best exhibitions and Shows in America in the late 70's to 1999. The day my Mother passed, I archived all of our work...until now. This is why some of these intimate format pieces are signed "Kay Sullivan" and others are signed "Jan Sullivan Fowler". I'm including these matted and unmatted pieces w/ prices reflective of days past, for I am now on to much larger Art formats. If the piece is matted, I selected the color and matted it myself. Japanese handmade Washi paper is an amazing natural substance, with unmatched qualities that reveal themselves in very unique and beautiful ways. I mix my colors using color mixing techniques originally developed centuries ago by Monks, to portray the "blush" of the Japanese Cherry blossoms. Coated w/ clear acrylics to protect from UVs. All of my artwork can be handwoven into fine 'Floor art' rugs, in any size you might like.

Jan Sullivan Fowler is a contemporary Artist working in Japanese handmade Washi paper and acrylics to create paintings with a unique flowing form. JSF Studios exemplifies "Life as Art". The Village of Elm Grove, Wisconsin was the perfect place for me to grow up doing art with my Mom(Kay Sullivan). I had received my degree in Fine Art from Milwaukee School of Art in the 70's, when Mom discovered this new mode of expression, Japanese handmade "Washi paper" and acrylics. My style has been referred to as "a new genre of Abstract/Modern", combining the clear ethereal with the contemplative aspects that provide a unifying and calming feeling.(you can see more work at www.JSFStudios.com) The natural fibers of Washi visually float, and add a depth that is unachievable without. I'm featured in Luxe Interiors+Design in the Deign Resource center.
