Following Blum's playful portrait style, in this photograph awash with colorful tones, one man's vibrant spirit pops. He strolls briskly, right arm swinging buoyantly as if already hearing music, down an alley bathed in morning light. His destination seems incongruent with his mirth - shop fronts with top-heavy anime characters and lights signaling nighttime debauchery. Yet despite this decor, the subject bubbles with bliss, fully inhabiting the present moment. Even from behind, joy radiates in his animated gait and confident posture. For him the world is his stage, the grimy side street merely a backdrop, and not his director. Sunlight spotlights his solo parade, for where he's been or where he's going fade into irrelevance next to the delight of simply being alive now, his feet in spirited flight toward some unseen tune...a testament in a luminous instant that joy inhabits spaces some only associate with sorrow.
