About The Artwork
The piece originally started out as a transparency image taken with a traditional Nikon film camera around the mid 1990's. It was an image I was always drawn to and I always thought it would make a strong simplistic piece of art. It was not until the digital age really took hold before I re-looked at the original again. The overall aesthetics I wanted to achieve was an impressionistic vision, which is a movement that I draw on for inspiration at times. The newer technologies gave me the tools to complete this vision. I first scanned the transparency creating a digital master that allowed me to put my creative stamp on the piece. Next a textured slightly surreal painted effect was applied also saturation and vibrance were increased to give a more stand out appeal. Due to the resultant vibrant feel I believe the overall work needs to be produced as a wall mounted gloss acrylic, which in this case I have opted for. This treatment will really compliment the reds of the poppies and create a radiant feel. I am honoured that my imagery is now sought after and reaching a global market and is used in many commercial projects particularly the book cover market. Therefore it is a pleasure to be now represented in the art world by such a distinguished company as Saatchi Art. The image is a limited edition authentic work produced to the established fine art standard of high quality digital printing. A beautiful piece will be achieved with a high gloss print face mounted on Acrylic with a 14mm black edged finish. The work comes complete with wall mountings. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity which will be signed and numbered with the edition size. Limited Edition of 1 that will not be exceeded in the stated size and materials. As a multi disciplined international award winning photographer who strives for continual perfection and that perfection is just out of reach, elusive. Each image I believe can always be improved; can be changed; can have a deeper meaning hidden beneath the surface and it’s my intention to draw the viewer into that image. I draw inspiration from past generations of artists. I particularly like the darkness and tension within Caravaggio’s works, the technicality of Leonardo da Vinci and the abstraction of Vincent Van Gogh. Some of these ideas are easier to transfer into our medium due to the digitalised age. As a photographer we are currently in times where we can express ourselves through our work by changing and advancing our styles. Now forward thinking stock libraries like Arcangel are a portal to creativity where the only limits we have are our own imaginations. I often use Fibonnaci’s divine ratio, consciously or subconsciously, within my work. This theory runs as a constant throughout the universe being seen in nature, patterns and shapes. I have a real affinity for travel and I have been fortunate to visit over 70 countries. I have been able to interact with different people and cultures through these experiences. This travelling has helped me develop a style of observational photography, sometimes by watching an event unfold and second guess the subject. It has helped me with my curiosities about the world and seems to draw me in further by looking at the complexities and interactions surrounding life. It has opened up my senses by allowing me to see great cities to small villages; visiting ancient monuments; to viewing a solar eclipse; to feeling the force of nature through the sea and feel the power of hurricanes. I have been widely published in travel and tourism guides, books, magazines and billboards
