I was inspired by various myths and legends surrounding onions and their magical power. It is said that, in 1919, during the great flu pandemic, there was a doctor who went around the farms and helped people to heal himself; one day he met a farm where all the people in the family were completely healthy. Then he asked the head of the family what they did differently and why they are all healthy. The man replied that his wife placed a peeled onion on a plate in each bedroom and that the onion protected the family from the flu. The doctor did not believe the farmer's story and asked him for one of these onions. When he put it under the microscope, he observed that the flu virus was in the onion that had absorbed it, thus protecting family members. A large number of people tell of the mysterious power of the onion and its effectiveness in case of cold. Personally, I have the experience since I was a child. My grandmother, whenever we had bronchitis or pneumonia, made a concentrated onion syrup, and gave us three tablespoons a day. In max. 4-5 days we were fine. If we had taken flu, she was placing a peeled onion under the bed where we were sleeping and the next day, we were waking healed. Scientists have discovered that onions are truly a great magnet for batteries and viruses. The healing power of onions is also known from antiquity as they are used in the menu of workers who built the pyramids of Egypt and in that of gladiators because the Romans believed that the onions develop a person's muscles and power. Native Americans used onions to make potions against disease. So, whether we are fans of onions or not, onions were there at every step of modern human evolution and were part of every chapter of human history.
