The 4th in the "Duality" series, it symbolizes a certain tension or conflict between the two parts but at the same time there is unity and harmony in the whole. As a freestanding sculpture, the sculptural balance also plays a role in the final shape of the form and adds to the harmony. The form is smoothed with attention to the purity of contour and curve, the result of which can be felt with the hands - adding another aspect to the viewing experience.

The Peruvian Walnut turns a rich dark brown with the coating of beeswax and mineral oil. This deep colour adds a certain character and charm to the sculpture as well as a sense of mystery, especially under certain lighting conditions.

The piece is made from 4 pieces of wood with the grain direction matched, carefully planed flat with a hand plane and laminated together. The carving process involves a variety of hand saws, a drawknife, a rasp and file, knives, scrapers and sandpaper. Using the sandpaper at the end to fine tune the shapes is a lengthy but contemplation inducing experience.
