VIEW IN MY ROOM
The piece is a stone representation of a plastic banner stand; the only difference is that it is standing on its side. I stumbled upon the abandoned plastic stand on the streets and found interesting the fact that it resembles a modern non-figurative stone sculpture, while the two are created with opposing intentions. The plastic banner stand was designed by someone who wanted the most economical object that have the most effect from the least possible cost, filling the empty plastic tank with water to make it heavy and sturdy to be installed outdoors. On the other hand, stone sculptors focus heavily on the stone as the material itself and study carefully the aesthetics of it as an art piece. I therefore had the urge to carve the object into stone to further play with its ambiguity. I also have fun with the thoughts of what if the piece was discovered a thousand years later as some sort of an artifact, what would people of the generation figure of it?
