Pleasure & Passion Sculpture

The vases “Pleasure & Passion” belong to a series of vases and sculptures called “Lightness Collection” that I’ve started to realize in consequence of my need for lightness either symbolic and physical. Pleasure is a positive feeling that I would like to trigger to those who appreciate this vase as I feel pleasure caressing the smooth surface of the applied glaze. Passion is the emotion that drives me to build this new shape and the way to obtain it. I have devised a unique process that utilizes the characteristics of ceramic paperclay to create a deeper character to each of my vases and sculptures. I call this process ‘The Lightness Technique’ because the research for lightness is something that obsessed me over the years. The lightness is something that I was looking along my career with the intention to overcome the heaviness of making traditional ceramics, from the raw materials, such as majolica and the equipment utilised such as for example, heavy moulds made by plaster. The geometric texture of the vase is the result of this experimental technique; in which I utilised recycled cardboard to obtain the casting mould where I pour the liquid paperclay, prepared by me, in different layers. Together, both the shapes, and the layers of materials utilised, enable a deeper story in each piece. In the end the vase it’s fired two times at 930°. With the lightness technique my artworks are physically light.
