About The Artwork

Originally created for Kidwelly Castle a unique and unforgiving site for art easily able to eclipse any work you bring to it. The architecture is designed to repel and speaks of another time another reality and a violence and raw power in an overt and domineering way that is uncomfortable when set against contemporary culture. It is uncomfortable in its clarity and its violence and it is perhaps because of that, it resonates more closely with the world we live in than we would like. I am fascinated by this space and the questions it asks of the invading artist. In my case I have resisted the temptation toward bold machismo and decided to explore the filigree delicate potential of bronze in exploring the structures and resilience of natural forms that endure long after the mighty have fallen' constructs that could be subsumed or re-merge in a different form still intact undeterred unbroken. I have been looking at the deceptive inner strength of delicate components the vulnerability of Princess Gwenllian and the way wounds, shadows, residues and absences make their mark in the word and shape our responses to it. I am inspired by the sensual experience of nature and the sprit of humanity. The ancient ties that bind, feed my imagination for making art. I make, un-make, and re-make. I find this leads me to a deep connection to humanity and nature. Through this awareness I hope to express our fragile existence. I usually begin a piece by drawing and playing with materials. I select materials that have meaning to my idea. I love modelling in wax, its smell, its flow and mutably and the gathering of fallen branches from the forest. Giving shape and form in the studio is labour intensive, as is the casting process. Mould making, molten metal, chasing and welding complete a full circle of activity. The creative process transforms me. Making art touches my heart. When I am creating everything else falls away. There is no sense of time.

Exhibiting international and national award winning artist who practice also includes commission for commercial as well as private collectors. Creative artist making meaningful inspiriting poetic art to cherish.Indigo because it colours everything, all emotion, our fragile planet, our universe. Madder is the colour of open flesh, wounds and healing, love and heartbreak" Indigo, 6000 years of historical importance that continues to inspires me. I make my own non-toxic fermentation indigo vats using century old recipe, plant dyes and pigments from the Earth on washi, wool, silk, this contrasted with industrial materials- cast iron, steel, concrete, engages me in a dialogue that creates a deeper connectedness to being. The tension of light, ephemeral and heavy dark industry produces a emotional experience. I find the dust and grime ingrained surfaces, when the edges worn with layers of time, muted colours greyed into man made materials. The experience of being in a rivers current and looking up through the heavy deep grey black blue sky to a ray light reflecting back.
