About The Artwork

This piece belongs to a series of moon representations. It is a mixed media/collage on canvas and it measures 24x12 inches. The title "Double Trashy-Moon" is because the piece is 100% trash. It is made of plastic materials such as two plastic foam plates recovered after using them, a plastic sheet dirty with colors, used to cover the work table, and pieces of dried bark. I've also used black acrylic for the background and white acrylic for the dripping at the bottom of the canvas. I use any kind of trashy-stuff, or leftovers found around. With them, I build my imaginary landscapes. I like to share a message about the value of things. Whatever we use and then we throw away should keep its own identity. Anything deserves to have a place and be seen. To me, nothing is real trash if I can keep my imagination alive.

My life began in Italy, in a small town nestled between the sea and the mountains. "Teate Degli Abruzzi", meaning, the "Land of Shepherds", is a wild and archaic territory where I spent most of my youth in close contact with the surrounding nature. My parents always told me that I began creating before I started talking. Indeed, some of my earliest memories are of days spent entirely gathering, reimagining, and crafting life from discarded things. Over the years, I have utilized the unique nature and dynamics of a multitude of materials – whether organic, inorganic, or synthetic – morphing them into new imagery and imbuing them with a new identity. Materials speak to me aloud. Despite their imperfections, rawness, and precariousness, they contain forces beyond our control in a continuous fluctuation between ephemerality and resilience. To this day, exploring the surroundings and gathering whatever inspires me is still the core of my practice. My process is led by a feeling of the transience of life which I strive to rehabilitate into a timeless dimension. I have exhibited extensively in Italy, Europe, and the US with critical acclaim since 1990. I've been living in the United States since 2015 working with numerous galleries across the country. I continue to investigate mixed media techniques as vehicles to embody my experiences and my vision of life.
