On this portrait there's a paper layer on a canvas and then a number of cut-outs from newspapers and magazines coloring the main structures of the face (nose, lips, eyebrows, eyes and hair). Once defined the colors I go on with forms, lights, shadows and textures by applying acrylic whites and blacks and some color that make deeper the scene. As a matter of facts this is a part of an installation of twelve paintings prepared for an exhibition where they were hanging on a wall very close one to another. Even if they were made to be together, I think they could be sold separately because of the idea that supports all of them. I shortly explain that to you: when I was young my grandmother used to stick to the bedroom mirror the pictures of deceased family members and to light for them a candle once a year. Now I know that that was a domestic altar which has its roots in the dawn of time two thousand years and more. The ancients used to venerate domestic deities. they were not necessarily benevolent, everyone had some flaws and yet everyone would protect the family and the house. Raimondo is a big thinker. He likes to ponder issues and, as such, is likely to come up with innovative answers. He is not daunted by seeming impossibilities but tackle them directly in his own quiet and thoughtful way. So much time spent in deep thought leads him to a natural philosophical attitude, well formed opinions, and in an array of topics. Zita is indecisive and frustrated by decisions. The fear of making a mistake or experiencing regret can even paralyze her and renders her incapable of deciding anything. This kind of wishy-washiness can be frustrating to other, but yet Zita can bring prudence and expectation for a natural solution of problems at first sight unsolvable.

AnS enjoys telling people he once worked on a wall for 2 days, the result was huge, but street art is ephemera and doesn't last much long, still it sticks in you so deep that it affects anything you are doing and for many years, for many years to come. So those years among other artists, in a politically motivated community, still make their way out, in a more organized way, less chaotic, aiming for a brand new world more livable and measured. And that's the best way to be active in today's world.
