About The Artwork
The white-handed gibbon is an endangered species, extinct in many areas because of hunting, war, and habitat loss from climate change. The primate reaches from a cage beside a nude trapped in his own thoughts of loss. I chose the mannerism style in pastel and chalk to draw parallels between endangered animals and all living creatures, here man and gibbon. All my nude drawings are of New Yorkers who work as live art models in person.
