About The Artwork
This work was created as one of over a hundred drawings that were made from 1976 to 1978. I was inspired by meditation, photography, use of a two dimensional grid and manipulation of light. This drawing was shown in 1979 at Chabot College in Hayward California. The title then was Germany. The thought behind the title was the horrible effects of Hitler and nahtzee Germany on the spirit of Democracy. I never dreamed that this picture would describe the events of January 6 2021 in Washington DC. So this picture now has a new title but the same message.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
