About The Artwork
I wanted to create a playful surrealistic collection inspired by my time living in Australia and my perception of the culture I’ve encountered. What I’ve found is Australians are easy going, well traveled, playful people that often ‘take the piss’ of things and have a unique slang that I’ve come to love. The fauna here is unique and something I was intrigued to draw, but with that playful surrealistic twist. Original will be available at The Other Art Fair Sydney May 11-14 2023

Hi! I’m Mary, a 28-year-old Texan artist based in Wollongong, Australia. I grew up in the USA before moving to Australia after I graduated from University with a degree in Nursing. When the pandemic hit I became burnt out and turned back to art, reviving my passion and motivating me to pursue it as a career. Working mostly with charcoal, I create surrealistic drawings inspired by my imagination. I enjoy the challenge of drawing something that’s not real, in realism. I believe imagination to be my greatest asset.
