About The Artwork

Looking at a landscape can be done in different ways, creating different views. Currently I am working on a series of drawings in which, instead of looking at the horizon, I am looking straight up. This artwork is the first that is finished. ‘Looking Up’ is a large drawing divided over three frames. The drawings in the frames are each made of 12 smaller drawings. In the first stadium of the work I have made each small drawing separately in ink to create what I call the basic rhythm. After joining these I continued to work on them with pastel until I was satisfied with the result. The picture you see is an impression of how it will look when framed. The drawing is shipped unframed, but with passe-partouts, so it will be easy to have them framed. This should be done in frame size A1 (23.4 x 33.1 inches, 594x 841 mm).

Through my art I share the observations I make of my surroundings, my feelings and my thoughts. Looking at the world as a painter allows me to look with a different and more observant eye. The things I see, observe and feel I translate into realistic images, but they are always more than a mere depiction of reality. They possess a deeper and more personal layer with which I invite the viewer to look closer, to share my view.
