Memento Mori Print

Life springing from death is an ancient literary trope. We memorialize the deceased with fresh flowers. This drawing wasn't meant to mock death, but maybe to defy it. I have always had a tendency to embellish the figures I draw, adding an elaborate hat or a bird to the top of the head, to cap the formal pose with revelry. While striking a dignified pose our thoughts are off in the treetops, our eyes are on the bird in the distance. I sometimes like a drawing I've created without exactly knowing what it means, without being able to explain it. That's the case here. Maybe after a few months or years seeing it on the wall someone will explain it to me.
