The piece is an exquisite, painstakingly rendered charcoal drawing conceived based upon a conversation between Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King regarding the naive optimism of belief in ghosts and afterlife. The conversation took place over a phone call prior to the production of 1980's "The Shining." The piece also includes a subtle nod to 18th-Century French still life painter Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin who had a penchant for dead rabbits.

Davis McLane Connelly is an emerging artist whose realistic, highly textured drawings often contain a playful and surreal surface narrative, with a visual subtext based on internal conflict, subconscious psychic growth, and the construction of semantics. Davis holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology (2004) from SUNY Cortland, and attended residencies in Drawing and Painting in Corciano, Italy (2006), and the Chautauqua Institution (2007). He is currently developing educational programs and partnerships to benefit youth in public and charter schools as a Senior Director for a youth non-profit in four of New York's boroughs. While his academic training in the field of psychology is an evident influence in his work, Davis is also a noted scholar in unexpected arenas such as archetypes in mythology and horror cinema, such as Joseph Campbell’s stages of monomyth and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining. He currently resides and works in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where he evenly commits his time to his research, studio work and youth programs.
