If there is one model I hope to draw again someday, it is the dancer, Soa. This was from the second of two sessions we had with her. Her petite yet incredibly strong physique coupled with striking facial features and some of the best and varied poses I have seen, made for an extremely productive session. Here, Soa is knelt down and bent forward, the top of the head touching the floor and her arms spread apart - the right passing underneath her body and the left extended out in front, causing a slight twist in the torso. The silhouette creates an interesting 'loop de loop' effect. Another five minute pose, I decided to duplicate my five minute drawings from the first session, using one thick brush on off-white paper, and though it was quick, I made sure to incorporate the shadows using a dry brush effect and this pose offered the perfect opportunity in getting the cast shadow under the torso, covering the face and the upper arm. The shadows here help create depth as the volumes recede into the distance overlapping one another. Even in a five minute pose I find it extremely important to include some indication of facial features and what I love here is the slight highlight on the nose that is peeking out. It was done at the Wednesday evening Life Drawing sessions held at Illumination Mac Guff, Paris, where I worked as a Character Animator for over three and a half years. The studio is known for such films as Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets and The Lorax. All of my figure drawings are from life - no photos were used at any point in their fabrication. The model is in front of you and you have a definite amount of time to get down as much information as you can or see fit. Because of this, each drawing is truly unique and a complete one of a kind, containing a spontaneity that can never be duplicated through photo inspired drawings/paintings. Please continue to look through my work for more images of Soa, quick and long poses.

English/French Character Animator that has worked on animated feature films, 'Nimona', 'Missing Link', 'The Secret Life of Pets', 'Minions', and many more over the last 16 years. Figure/Life Drawing is my passion and as well as being something I take great pleasure in doing, also has a very beneficial impact on my professional work in terms of anatomy, weight, movement and posing. When drawing the human figure I love using shadow to create volume and depth, I love trying to capture the weight and movement in an anatomically correct and yet loose manner, and above all, I love finding little attentions to detail that capture the essence of the model, especially around the face. I have lived across 3 different European countries and the US, and am now living in London, UK.
