About The Artwork
The work is a pencil on paper illustration created in 2009. Inspired by Paulo Coelho's internationally renowned best seller, 'The Alchemist,' the creation imagines the streets of Tangier with its narrow dusty and dimly lit pathways full of the ambient sounds of bargaining merchants, undomesticated livestock in addition to the nomadic. I hope that the viewer feels compelled to read or re-read Coelho's transformative work upon viewing the illustration. I choose pencil and paper as my medium's of expression because i feel they could best convene the feeling and mood of an ancient city untouched by time. The style of the work didn't need to be photorealist but it did need attention to detail hence the use of shadow for creating depth of perception.
