About The Artwork

These two walnut trees are growing in the next village to mine, 1000m up in the alps. They stand together, and have both witnessed 2 world wars, and many other troubles here in Austria. The sun breaking through the moody clouds is always a symbol of hope. Somehow, these trees seem really important...

Originally from the south-west of England, I moved to a remote valley in the Austrian Alps around ten years ago. Art was always a huge part of my childhood - I would draw and paint every day. I studied for a year at a college in North London, and although being offered a place at university, I guess I wasn't ready, as I chose to 'live life' at the time instead. This led me to my other passion, music, and I ended up pursuing this as a career for several decades, creating a soundware business, writing music for film and tv, as well as releasing several albums that achieved cult status amongst many record collectors. However...I missed art....a lot. And so, I've returned to it with a passion. I live in a very unusual location - 1000 metres above sea-level in the mountains. Living in such a remote place for a decade has had a huge effect on my perception of reality - how I see the world - life - history - humans - robots! Tradition here is so palpable - change is frowned upon - in many areas hay is still cut with a scythe and raked by hand - religion is all around - dead Jesus' hang bleeding on crosses by the roadsides. All of this feeds into my understanding of the human condition - for better or for worse - and I can't help but be 'inspired' by this. The contrast of this almost story-book existence with the internet and the push for a digital society is very much on my mind - I suppose much of my work is my brain trying to quantify this - as if two worlds are colliding and we are at the rubicon - I hope it resonates with some of you.
