In the age loosely named Anthropocene – the geological time of planet Earth defined and shaped by the human activity, the nature that used to surround us is quickly disappearing. It is almost completely gone. If you look out of the airplane, no matter where you are, Europe, North or South America, – you can not see any patch of land that is not altered by people. Our forests are empty, you cannot see animals, maybe a few birds if you are very lucky and only if you have very powerful binoculars. Our parks are full of mice and rats that have no predators and our oceans have growing islands of garbage. Archipelagos of plastic, – landmasses of materials that are growing, swallowing life and entering into the bodies of marine life and slowly making their way to our dinner tables and becoming part of our bodies. My goal as an artist is to record the last moments that we still have with the remaining species. My technique of drawing objects as clusters of circles is a way of representing organisms at the point of returning to a state of chaos. If you do not blink they are there, but if you turn away they might be gone. I want the public to at least pause and to recognize the moment of loss. Countless organisms are slipping into oblivion every day.
