About The Artwork

This piece was initially inspired by a Beethoven piano sonata and the pianist who performed it at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. I have a strong perceptual connection to energy when live music is played. At this performance an energetic triangle seemed to form between the pianist, myself and one older gentleman in the crowd. I learned later from the pianist that the gentleman was a long time pianist and professor who knew the pieces by heart. I was undergoing an energetic emergence of my own at the time, shedding layers of dysfunction and danger from my personal life. This piece represented the beginning of my transformation. This original piece was created with Acrylic on canvas. I did not touch it for almost five years. When I felt inspired to return to this piece, I had become more myself and wiser. I felt a powerful pull toward expressing the powerful energies which dance in my life. For me, this final painting represents the power and wisdom of Athena and her partnership with the symbols of Poseidon. She teaches us here that serenity is through acceptance of our opposing forces. Life fully lived and embraced is full of contradictions, challenges and moments of transcendence. This work is acrylic and pastel on canvas. The work does not have hanging hardware at this time.
