Years ago I came across the glass work of turn of the century artist, Emille Gallé. His vases rendered botanicals in a Japonisme style. They were beautifully lit from within. I spent the next two years developing an oil glazing technique that I hoped would come close to the beautiful glass work of Gallé. This botanical is created on a 15"x15" gallery wrapped canvas. I prepare the canvas with fresco - so the surface is nuanced with a natural quality that is subtly different from a flat, bright white gesso. I then glaze the piece multiple times with thinned down oil paints. The end result gives the piece a special luminosity. I am available for commissions of any scale and can work within your color and design aspirations. info@alicialachance.net
