- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Name: Berlopolis Date: 2015 Description: monotype oil, oil medium, acrylic, markers, acrylic glazes, drawing ink glazes, painting media and varnish on canvas made of pure raw linen (stretched on a frame) in black lacquered shadow frame with silver edge Outer dimensions (frame): 33.6 x 55.1 x 2 in Remark: This is a commissioned work. The goal was to combine today's Berlin with the flair of the film town and megacity "Metropolis" from Fritz Lang's homonymous silent film classic, which brought the legendary Berlin production company UFA almost to its financial ruin. The result is "Berlopolis", a future perspective from the view of the 1920ths and an architectural composition between fascinating, fast-moving, modern urbanity and cold, threatening Moloch. The artwork was sold to a private collector in Berlin. All commissions are subject to "Speculative Art". The Speculative Art, which I founded and it is to be assumed that I created with this work a new art genre in the fine, free and interdisciplinary art, namely the finance art, is a project of art, in which my artworks are subject to price fixing – prices are fixed between 2015 and 2040 and rise by 25 per cent annually. The Speculative Art is a persiflage of the art market and infiltrates the market mechanisms of the art market. The Speculative Art is an art action that will help collectors and art lovers to buy art through stable and transparent price developments and brings non-elitist, non-artistic layers of people to the purchase of artworks. The Speculative Art criticizes the art market, by disclosing the existing market mechanisms and to bring them to light by using this mechanisms itself like a mirror to show how they work and how irrationally they are. Every sold artwork of mine confirms this vicious system, plays the ball back and the acceleration increases. Please do not hesitate to tell me your ideas about an artwork or your dream painting, which still needs to be created. Sincerely yours Ulrich F. Stanke - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
