VIEW IN MY ROOM
The meleze trees, Larch in English, produce the most beautiful magenta buds which later become small cones. The Race d'herens cows typical to the savoyard region of Switzerland love eating the spring needle leaves and cone buds. Here are pictured the two matriarchs of the herd from the perspective of sitting, as we the shepherds were at the time. All the cows are hand reared and still enjoy the company of the shepherds, coming for scratches and caresses. I hope the viewer will feel the peace of the moment and get an idea of a shepherd's (cowherd) viewpoint on a beautiful day in an alpage. I love painting in oils for the depth of colour possible and translucent nature which lends itself well to the nuances of colour in the cow's hide, eyes and muzzle. The subject matter is one of a natural lifestyle and seasonal rythyms which are close to my heart.
