Kinnaur is culturally rich district of Himanchal Pradesh, India. It is about 630 Km from NewDelhi, the capital of India. It is a 7 hours road journey from Chandigarh. The Kinners have a patriarchal system of inheritance. But one of the most interesting aspects about them is their marriage system. The preferred form of marriage was polyandry and it still prevails in the villages where the bride of eldest of the brothers in the family naturally and automatically becomes a common wife of all the brothers. The women of Kinnaur are famous for their beauty. Their charm and spell find mention even in ancient scriptures. The Kinner girls known for their captivating beauty were trained as Vish Kanyas or poison girls by the kings to kill their enemies.

Arvind Gairola is an Indian artist who was born in the small village – “Gairi” in the hills of Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature and the majestic mountain ranges of the Himalayan region. From an early age, Arvind was passionate about art and he spent most of his childhood days practicing and learning different art techniques. Despite his love for art, Arvind chose to study science as a subject and graduated as a science student. He then pursued a career in the tourism industry and spent around 18 years working for some of the top tourism companies in the world, such as Kuoni Travel, SOTC Travel, and Thomas Cook Travel. However, despite his success in the tourism industry, Arvind began to feel unfulfilled and realized that he was getting caught up in the rat race of the world. He felt that he was not doing justice to his passion for art and that he needed to live his life in a more meaningful way. Arvind made the bold decision to quit his job and pursue his passion for art full-time. He has been living this way for around five years now and feels much more satisfied and happy than before. He believes that nature is the best inspiration for an artist and his artwork often reflects the beauty of nature. Arvind's art is not bound by any particular medium, technique or style, but he has a love for contemporary art that is clearly visible in his work. He enjoys experimenting with different mediums and techniques, and his recent artworks are with water colour on paper and Acrylics on canvas. Arvind's mantra for life is to "Live and let other live". He believes in living life on his own terms, pursuing his passions and finding fulfilment in the simple things around him.
