About The Artwork

"Cafe Grenze' is a painting representing an imaginary scene at a Polish and German border crossing in the Polish town of Świnoujście (Swinemünde in German). This painting is one of the dearest to Ola out of her recent work, as it represents all the symbolic elements that are constant and important in her work: the female condition, transcendence, animalistic spirit and physical and imaginary borders. It captures a scene at the edge of 'transference' - of both physical and psychological boundaries. Women, children and animal spirits wait at night to 'cross over' - full of hope of change, fluid in the state of being and bearing the whole range of experiences of female condition: the innocence of childhood, closeness to nature and animals, all-encompassing love of motherhood. This surrealistic scene is a deeply layered snapshot of the subconscious state of being a mother, a feminist, and a human striving for a better, fairer world without any boundaries.

I am a Polish artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. My paintings embody an intuitive journey through different levels of experience. Sometimes I reach inward to follow the magic and symbolism of dreams. Sometimes I explore outward spaces: pop culture, feminist movements and the psychology of the human condition. Yet my greatest drive comes from thinking about humanity’s place within the enormous beauty of nature, its landscape and animals. I work with oil paintings. Their deep, bright colours fascinate me as I search for the perfect light and embrace the potential of each moment. For in each impression of the air lies the phenomenon of the universe that stretches beyond our planet.
