What to do with a broken wine glass that you really, really like? The origins of this painting lie in a mishap I experienced while rearranging my props cabinet to the tune of a Spotify retro playlist featuring The Runaways' iconic anthem of female rebellion. One trip to the back of the fridge for maraschino cherries, a few hours sweating over the placement of a pair of neon lamps, and the fortuitous discovery of a wilted rose bouquet that hadn't yet made it into the green bin, and I had the start of this cheeky still life. Painted in the indirect or flemish style, this work features intricate details worked in layers of transparent glaze, with a smooth texture and high shine that pops off the canvas. This work is on a circular stretched canvas, 40cm in diameter, with finished edges in matte, solid aubergine purple.
