About The Artwork

There are always a lot of mysteries in the circus, in the picture we feel an atmosphere of mystery. In the foreground, on a giant shell with its back to us, there is a sculpture. A little further we see Pierrot, Harlequin, Columbine. The circus arena is covered with bright colorful tiles. The city is visible in the background. The picture additionally is decorated with an ornamental rhythm.

Tatjana Gurbo We live in a very sophisticated and multifaceted world. It includes a countless number of diverse and apparently incompatible things. In other words, the world is filled with interactions, and I attempt to reflect these interactions in my works. I would define the underlying principle of my painting as complementarity I distinctly pursue two complementary styles. The first one is surrealism where a certain influence of Salvador Dali is apparent. However, unlike Dali, my paintings depicture both classical and surrealistic images. In my mind, they are interwoven and inseparable giving rise to associations either with the Chinese philosophy, or with the Western dualistic ideas. Images of women, shells or geometric figures painted in the purely classical fashion co-exist with surrealistic or occasionally with abstractionist lines, spots and complex colour compositions. The space in my paintings is never empty: it is filled with drops, balloons, other objects, in one word, with life. Unlike the modern artistic trend, the different elements of the world, present in my paintings, are not opposed to nature. One of the main genres of my painting is still life where I also maintain the principle of complementarity. Completely unexpected images of old and modern things complement each other and reflect the real world where interactions between movable and immovable, ancient and contemporary, materialistic and idealistic are essential. My hobbies: travel, tourism, guide work, ceramics, textile art, painting, glass painting, theatre.
